Convenient, nourishing, and easy to reheat:

  • Lasagna: Classic lasagna with layers of pasta, rich meat or vegetarian sauce, and creamy béchamel sauce. Make it in a disposable aluminum pan for easy cleanup.

  • Chili or Soup: Prepare a big batch of chili, chicken noodle soup, or minestrone soup. Portion it into freezer-safe containers for quick meals or freeze soups in plastic ziploc bags so they take up less freezer space and can stack on one another.

  • Casseroles: Casseroles like baked ziti, shepherd's pie, or macaroni and cheese can be made in advance and frozen in portions.

  • Stuffed Peppers: Stuffed bell peppers with a filling of ground beef, rice, and tomato sauce.

  • Baked Chicken: Marinate chicken pieces in your favorite sauce or seasoning, then freeze them. They can be baked directly from the freezer.

  • Quiches: Quiches are versatile and can be made with a variety of ingredients like spinach, bacon, cheese, or mushrooms.

  • Meatballs: Make a big batch of meatballs and freeze them. They can be used for spaghetti and meatballs, subs, or sandwiches.

  • Vegetarian Stir-Fry: Chop and freeze a mix of your favorite vegetables for quick and healthy stir-fries. Add tofu or tempeh for protein.

  • Curry: Prepare a hearty curry, such as chicken curry or vegetable curry, and freeze it in portions.

  • Burritos: Wrap burritos with a filling of seasoned ground beef, beans, rice, and cheese. Wrap them individually in foil for easy reheating.

  • Breakfast Burritos: Burritos’ early riser. Make breakfast burritos with eggs, cheese, and optional ingredients like bacon or vegetables. Wrap and freeze them.

  • Baked Goods: Consider baking and freezing muffins, scones, or cookies.

  • Smoothie Packs: Prepare smoothie ingredients like fruits, vegetables, and yogurt in individual packs. Blend them with liquid for a quick and nutritious breakfast or snack.

Remember to label each container with the name of the dish, the date it was prepared, and any reheating instructions. These homemade freezer meals can provide much-needed relief during the busy first weeks of parenthood (and are excellent to bring to those you know who have also recently given birth).
